💡 Official Guidance

This is a major upgrade for the Popur S7 SLS. Firmware 4.0.0 and App 2.0.0 must work together. If either one is an older version, it'll be incompatible.

We strongly advise you to update the firmware first, and then the mobile app. This way, the old firmware may still work with the old app even if firmware update fails.

Please navigate to Popur S7 App → Device Page → Settings (top-right corner) → Firmware update → Confirm that 4.0.0 or newer version is available → Tap the purple icon to install update.

This significant update may require up to 10 minutes to complete. During installation, the status indicator will display a spinning yellow light. Upon successful installation, the unit will emit a prolonged beep and perform an automatic reboot sequence.

When mobile app is upgraded first, firmware update will be the only available operation in the new app. All other functions become invalid until the firmware is upgraded.

After both updates, the device essentially conducts a full reset automatically in order to implement all new features. Thus, it's compulsory to re-pair the Popur S7 SLS by adding it again in the app. The old device will still exist but appear as disconnected. Please navigate to Product List under the Me page and remove the old one from your account. Please also re-configure your customizations. Historical data will be eradicated. Unfortunately, there is no way to circumvent these technical trivials. We're very apologetic for creating the hassles.

We also recommend recalibrating the scale that cpatures the weight data and changes. You may use the command within the app: Popur S7 App → Device Page → Settings (top-right corner) → Scale → Recalibrate scale → Confirm, or follow this video guide: https://youtu.be/H8SOgcMz7Wo.

Lastly, we've rebuilt the self-check function. You may consider running a self-check within the mobile app, which is accessible on the device's settings page, and react according to the self-check reports.

🪛 Repair or Replacement

In theory, there are two scenarios where the firmware update might fail.

Case One: Defective Motherboard

We've received a small number of similar reports in the past. To date, we have not identified any hardware-level Wi-Fi module failures—the S7 wireless module is industrial-grade and has performed reliably across large-scale deployment. In all prior cases, the firmware update was ultimately completed successfully after additional attempts.

If there is no response after pressing the update icon, it typically indicates a timeout while attempting to fetch update data packets from the server. This is most commonly caused by suboptimal signal strength or temporary connectivity instability rather than a device defect.

At this stage, we recommend the following:

  • Try initiating the update again from a different physical location (closer to the router) or at a different time of day.
  • Perform several device reboots.
  • Reconnect the device to Wi-Fi, or pair it with another phone's hotspot as a new Wi-Fi network to implement the update.
  • If necessary, uninstall and reinstall the app to eliminate residual session or pairing artifacts.

These steps have resolved nearly all previously reported instances. If the issue persists after multiple controlled attempts, given our current understanding of the system architecture, the only remaining hardware-level intervention would be replacement of the motherboard that integrates the Wi-Fi circuitry. The mobo features a modular design so that it can be replaced efficiently and handily using the video guide below. Feel free to keep the cat sensor as backup and skip the corresponding section, which is not applicable to the present issue.

Case Two: Bricked Powerboard

We identified that legacy firmware versions prior to 2.0.0 could be vulnerable to a rare but critical issue related to misconfigured server protocols during update verification. In affected cases, this could prevent the device from properly recovering after the update process. This vulnerability has been permanently corrected in the subsequent firmware builds, and all future updates have been safeguarded against this scenario.

For reference, the firmware update process may take up to 10 minutes. During installation, the status light will spin yellow initially, followed by a purple spinning indicator in the final phase. You may unplug and reconnect the device to re-initiate the update sequence, and repeat this a few times if necessary. If feasible, uninstall and reinstall the app to eliminate residual connection artifacts. In some cases, the app may indicate that the device is already on the latest version due to minor technical discrepancies. As a sanity check, a prolonged beep at completion confirms successful installation and automatic reboot.

If it is stuck forever with the spinning yellow status light or even a light cycling in rainbow color, it is likely that the powerboard has bricked. We recommend replacing the power supply board to fix this issue once and for all. The load cells need to be replaced at the same time because they are soldered to the circuit board. This craftsmanship is superior to using pins in all aspects including quality, functionality, and consistency.
