Technical Clarifications
Pro-Commands
Under default settings, press & hold the Fn key for 7 seconds to enter or exit the Pro-Commands state, which is a built-in diagnostic mode and indicated by the blue status light. Or, simply toggle on/off Pro-Commands directly from the Panel menu in the app. Note that the Fn key is customizable in the Shortcut menu.
In this state, the buttons function as follows:
- Key 1 (Play): Rotates the chamber forward
- Key 2 (Bin): Rotates the chamber backward
- Key 3 (Sifter): Opens the sifter
- Key 4 (Fn): Closes the sifter
Machine States
In the app, there are 5 kinds of icons displayed on the top left corner of the machine picture:
- Wi-Fi icon: Device is connected to Wi-Fi.
- Broken link: Device is disconnected from Wi-Fi.
- Share icon: Device is shared to others.
- Paper plane: Device is shared from others.
- Exclamation mark: Device has an error.
Also, there are in total 10 types of status operable via the primary function bar:
- Ready; Tap to start cleaning
- Do not disturb; Tap to start cleaning
- Cleaning to start in X minutes; Tap to start cleaning
- Cleaning in progress; Tap to pause cleaning
- Cleaning paused; Tap to continue cleaning
- Please empty bin; Tap to start cleaning
- Hibernating; Tap to power on
- Powered off; Tap to power on
- Pet doing the business; Remote control not available
- Self-checking; Remote control not available
Bin Indicators & Cycle Counts
There are 6 icons that indicate the bin's present condition:
- Nearly empty: From 0 to ⅓ of the Cycle counts.
- Half empty: From ⅓ to ⅔ of the Cycle counts.
- Almost full: From ⅔ to 99% of the Cycle counts.
- Bin full: Triggered by bin sensors ONLY when the hood can no longer fully close.
- Bin opened
- Bin unfound
For handy reference, the system displays 3 types of cycle calculations from the raw data presented in the Stats:
- Cycles today
- Cycles since zeroing
- Lifetime cycles: This calculation can only be cleared by Factory reset.
Starting with firmware 4.0.0, the Zeroing command inside Bin menu is introduced to help monitor the bin level more accurately by confirming the zero mark.
It's critical to set an accurate Cycle counts in order to use the above functions.
Path: Popur S7 App → Device Page → Settings (top-right corner) → Dump → Monitor bin → Cycle counts
Please provide an approximate number of cycles from zeroing to a full bin. For better accuracy, manually reset the cycle count to zero after you empty the bin, then continue using the device normally and observe how many cycles are recorded until the bin becomes full. Lastly, change the preset value (in multiples of 21) that is closest to the actual usage.
Recent Activities & Notifications
There are in total 11 types of recent activity as well as push notification recorded in and reported by the app:
- Pet detected
- Pet finished the business
- Pet left without business
- Cleaning started
- Cleaning paused
- Cleaning resumed
- Automatic cleaning completed
- Scheduled cleaning completed
- Manual cleaning completed
- Bin full
- Self-check completed
Cleaning Modes
While only the Automatic mode is enabled by default, Popur S7 SLS is equipped with 11 more specialized modes that may work in tandemn seamlessly to suit different needs and use cases perfectly. They fall into three groups categorized by the purpose: Automatic, Schedule and Do-not-disturb decide whether or not a cleaning cycle should start; Sentinel, Caring, Linger, Zoomie and No-troll adjust sensor and pet detection algorithm according to pets' habits or behaviors; Chunky-litter, Soft-stool, Auto-bury and Dog-proof change the workflow before or during a cleaning process.
- Automatic/Manual: Allows your Popur S7 SLS to start the automatic cleaning cycle after a pet finished its business. Toggling Automatic mode off is equivalent to Manual mode.
- Schedule: Sets to start automatic cleanings at predetermined timestamps. Supports up to 10 cleaning appointments.
- Do-not-disturb: Defines quiet hours during which cleanings won’t happen, neither automatic nor scheduled. Supports up to 5 do-not-disturb rules.
- Sentinel: Enables continuous pet presence detection, and pauses operation temporarily to prevent startle. May reduce cleaning efficiency and cause brief delays.
- Caring: Maximizes sensor range as well as sensitivity, and auto-activates Sentinel mode. Optimized for lightweight or low-movement pets (e.g., kittens, pregnant cats, ferrets).
- Linger: Avoids premature cleanings and requires a confirmed weight change before starting, to ensure the machine stays inactive for extended periods of subtle activity. Suitable when a cat sleeps in the box, after topping up fresh litter, or for cats experiencing constipation, who typically remain still in the box longer.
- Zoomie: Lowers the sensor trigger threshold to accommodate high-speed entries and exits—such as zoomies or quick parkour-style hops. Helps ensure cleaning is still initiated even when your cat's contact with the box is brief. Ideal for agile or easily excitable pets whose behaviors may otherwise bypass detection.
- No-troll: Prevents repetitive cleaning cycles triggered by curious cats. Temporarily disregards activity after a completed cycle. Supports customization of the cooldown duration.
- Chunky-litter: Repeats the initial tilt motion and reverses the subsequent return motion, enhancing sifting and leveling precision for chunkier litter granules. Supports customization of the oscillation number.
- Soft-stool: Slows the tilt motion with a pulsed, incremental drive. Creates deliberate stop-start steps to cover semi-solid waste and reduce smear risk. Supports customization of the softness level.
- Auto-bury: Proactively moves the sifter to cover waste after pet exits. Ideal for cats who prefer leaving their business uncovered. Supports customization of the wait duration.
- Dog-proof: Automatically deploys the sifter after a pet exits to physically block access to the litter area. Designed to deter dogs or other curious animals from reaching cat waste. Ideal for multi-pet households where interspecies snacking is a concern. Supports customization of the wait duration.
It's also worth claryfing that the Automatic mode can be deemed as a universal switch because certain modes are added on top of the automatic function. When Automatic is disabled:
- These features still work as normal: Schedule, Do-not-disturb, Sentinel, Caring, No-troll, Chunky-litter, and Auto-bury.
- These features are no longer in effect: Linger, Zoomie and Dog-proof.
- These activities are still recorded and reported, despite no subsequent cleanings: Pet detected, Pet finished the business, and Pet left without business.
Cleaning Process
A cleaning cycle consists of three steps, namely spin, launch, and smooth. The following settings will affect how the process looks like: Smooth, Chunky-litter, Soft-stool, Allow overfill, Reshuffle clumps, and Lower speed.
1) Spin/tilt stage
Lower speed reduces the operating speed to minimize dust and lower noise.
Chunky-litter, Reshuffle clumps, and Soft-stool have a similar effect on the initial tilt motion.
When activated at the same time, the number of oscillation is the highest among the three, and the priority goes as: Chunky-litter > Reshuffle clumps > Soft-stool.
2) Launch/dump stage
Allow overfill will extend the sifter slightly further with a shake intended to get rid of debris stuck in between the slots.
3) Smooth/level stage
While introducing cat litter back into the tray, the number of back-and-forth smoothing is always determined by the Smooth settings.
When enabled, Chunky-litter will tilt the tray during the smooth process.
Cat Sensors & Safety Peculiarities
The Popur S7 was engineered with intrinsic safety as its foundation. In fact, this principle was the primary engineering consideration that led to the invention of our Split Litter System (SLS). Unlike drum-style robots that depend entirely on layered sensors to mitigate risk inside an enclosed cavity and confined tunnel, the S7 adopts an open-air architecture that eliminates entrapment hazards by design. The moving components are lightweight, damped, and physically buffered from the cat. Even in the unlikely event of a malfunction, the structure itself does not create a trapping scenario.
Therefore, a salient difference between Popur S7 SLS and other litterbots is that it doesn't have to halt cleanings when approached by pets, which is apparently more efficient, particularly advantageous in multi-cat households, and fundamentally trustworthy around cats of all ages—from playful kittens to cautious seniors.
The S7 operates fully offline if preferred; app connectivity is an enhancement, not a prerequisite for safety. While the core safety logic is embedded directly in the hardware, the versatile Popur S7 SLS takes care of every single temperament by supporting a full suite of dedicated modes such as Sentinel, Caring, Linger, etc, which can be easily activated in the app for added reassurance or extra mental relief. For instance, Sentinel mode stops cleaning whenever it senses nearby movement to minimize startle to skittish cats.
These advanced features are empowered by two types of cat sensors. The primary sensor is the millimeter-wave radar, which is a motion detector that delivers unmatched detection accuracy regardless of obstacles, ambient light, mounting surfaces or installation quirks. Since we first introduced this technology, it has been validated as the most stable and responsive safeguard for an automatic litter system. The auxiliary one is the load cell, which is a weight sensor that provides strong presence indications and excels at tracking long-term weight trends. However, weight sensor has its distinct preferences as well as inherent limitations. Technically speaking, it's suboptimal for litterbox applications because the delicate load cells remain under constant heavy static weight—outside their ideal intermittent-use scenario—so readings can be influenced by litter shifts and environmental variables. Adding it involves a balance between precision, redundancy, and false triggers, and we've been carefully calibrating this integration to maintain both perceived safety and operational smoothness.
Since inception, both sensitivity and range of the motion sensing can be adjusted under Detect settings. A higher number increases sensitivity or enlarges coverage of the motion sensor, making itself easier to activate (and vice versa).
- Sensitivity ranges from 1 to 10, with 5 as the default value. Our proprietary algorithm for processing the signals is non-linear. Or simply put, it's significantly more sensitive when it gets closer to 10.
- Range is between 1 and 5, with 3 as the default value. The shape of coverage is similar to a cone. The value corresponds to the radius of the circular sector across the litter tray plane, which is largely linear. 3 is roughly the same width as the tray. 1 is about 60%, ignoring most probing behaviors. 5 is about 140%, establishing a virtual geo-fence around the machine.
Starting with firmware 4.0.0, we've enabled weight sensing to be an additional checkpoint as well as alienated it as a customizable option (i.e. Detect pets) under Scale settings, instead of being a baked-in function for the applicable modes including Automatic, Sentinel, Caring and Linger. Unmentioned modes are either unrelated to weight changes or already governed by the Automatic mode.
- When Automatic is toggled, it'll be more stringent to trigger an automatic cleaning cycle because both motion and weight sensors must meet their respective requirements. The threshold for weight change is 500 grams.
- When Sentinel is toggled, it'll be more sensitive to intervene a cleaning cycle by either sensor. The threshold for weight change is 1 kilogram.
- If Caring is toggled, Sentinel will be automatically toggled on by definition. For trigger, the threshold for weight change is lowered to 200 grams. For pause, the threshold for weight change remains 1 kilogram.
- Linger is always toggled on by definition. The threshold for weight change is 500 grams. Specifically, there is a 15-min window to decide whether a trigger is valid or not. For example, if a cat stays still in the box for longer than 15 minutes, or fresh cat litter is topped up, it will not start a cleaning cycle.
- The following modes by definition are unrelated to weight changes: Schedule, Do-not-disturb, No-troll, Chunky-litter, and Soft-stool.
- The following modes share the settings for Automatic, hence are unlisted to avoid duplications: Zoomie, Auto-bury, and Dog-proof.
Calibrations
It's not uncommon for individual electronics to exhibit peculiar traits and drift from the universal setup. To esnure consistentcy over long time of use, Popur S7 SLS is not only built in with duplicate sensors for redundancy and backup, but also supports various recalibrations.
Recalibrate Bin
- Definition: Recalibrate the waste bin sensors that decide whether or not the bin is full.
- How? Popur S7 App → Device Page → Settings (top-right corner) → Dump → Recalibrate bin → Recalibrate
- The system conducts a bin calibration automatically each time the bin hood is plugged in, including after powering on the whole system.
Recalibrate Sensor
- Definition: Recalibrate the position sensors that govern the rotation movements.
- How? Popur S7 App → Device Page → Settings (top-right corner) → Spin → Recalibrate sensor → Recalibrate
- Alternatively: Hold the Clean/Play button for 3 seconds—and do this AGAIN within 10 seconds. This will trigger the calibration process.
- The system may run a sensor calibration automatically in the case of inactivity as a self-remedial measure.
Recalibrate Scale
- Definition: Recalibrate the weight sensors that capture the weight data and changes.
- How? Popur S7 App → Device Page → Settings (top-right corner) → Scale → Recalibrate scale → Confirm

- Because of complex use cases, the system observes data throughput all the time, and performs tare operations automatically whenever specific conditions are met.
Resets
Popur S7 SLS is designed with 3 types of resets operable directly by using the onboard buttons. These special commands still work even if panel lock is toggled on in the app.
Hard Reset
- Definition: Erase all customizations, clear cache, and reset all settings to default values.
- How? Hold the Clean (aka Play) button for 7 seconds until you hear three consecutive beeps.
Wireless Reset
- Definition: Disconnect the device from internet and remove from the original app account.
- How? Hold the Bin button for 7 seconds until you hear three consecutive beeps.
- Note: If conducted when the device is offline, it'll still be shown in the original app account, and you need to manually remove it by navigating to Product List under the Me page.
Factory Reset
- Definition: Erase all information, including customizations, cache, app data, and wireless connection.
- How? Hold the Sifter button for 3 seconds, repeat this AGAIN within 10 seconds. Machine will reboot after the factory reset.
Popur S7 | Changelog
If your device was running a much older firmware version, we also recommend a Wi-Fi reconnection. Some newer features or datapoints rely on updated provisioning logic that is only applied during a fresh connection handshake, so re-pairing helps ensure all functions are properly initialized. You can reset the wireless connection by holding the Bin button for 7 seconds until you hear three consecutive beeps, or by navigating to Product List under the Me menu and removing the device from your account.
- Hard reset (holding Clean key for 7 seconds) returns all device settings to default. However, it doesn't change Wi-Fi connection.
- Wireless reset (holding Bin key for 7 seconds) only disconnects the device from your Wi-Fi. For clarification, it still retains all your data and settings.
Firmware 4.0.0 and App 2.0.0 (Upcoming)

Special Notes
- Firmware 4.0.0 and App 2.0.0 must work together. If either one is an older version, it'll be incompatible.
- We recommend updating the firmware first, and then the mobile app. This way, the old firmware may still work with the old app even if firmware update fails.
- When mobile app is upgraded first, firmware update will be the only available operation in the new app. All other functions become invalid until the firmware is upgraded.
- After both updates, the device essentially conducts a full reset automatically in order to implement all new features. Thus, it's compulsory to re-pair the Popur S7 SLS by adding it again in the app. The old device will still exist but appear as disconnected. Please navigate to Product List under the Me page and remove the old one from your account. Please also re-configure your customizations. Unfortunately, there is no way to circumvent these technical trivials. We're very apologetic for creating the hassles.
